FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 23, 2018

MEDFORD, WI – Community members in Medford, WI are taking a big step to spread caring and compassion in their state by holding a Gather4Good service event during the first week of May. Volunteers of all ages will assemble 2,000 personal care kits at the  event on Sunday, May 6th starting at 11:30 a.m. Local organizations in and around the Medford area will later receive and distribute these kits to support the needs of the community.

This is the first Gather4Good event to be held in Wisconsin since the program began in 2010.

During the event at Holy Rosary Catholic School, volunteers will assemble personal care items into cloth kit bags, along with written messages of hope and encouragement. Sponsor Catholic United Financial provides refreshments, live music and activities to the volunteers for a joyful mix of work and play. This event will be held indoors, so volunteers can dress casually. More details and a registration form can be found at www.gather4good.org/medford2018.

“Our care kit assembly project can be done by anyone age 2 to 102. If you can pick up a toothbrush, you can do it,” said Nate Lamusga, Member Engagement Director for Catholic United Financial. “Families who have participated in the past told us that Gather4Good was an opportunity to teach their kids a meaningful, hands-on lesson about helping those less fortunate.”

Vicky Giacalone, local Catholic United Sales Representative in the Medford area, is helping coordinate the event and recruit volunteers. “The charitable organizations I’ve talked to are excited to distribute these care kits, so the need out there is real.” Giacalone expressed gratitude to the staff of Holy Rosary for serving as hosts on May 6th. “They told me that hosting the first Gather4Good event in Wisconsin means a lot to them.” Nine other parishes in the area have been invited to participate as well.

Location: Holy Rosary Catholic School, 215 S Washington Ave, Medford, WI
Time: 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
More details and RSVP online: www.gather4good.org/medford2018

Catholic United is networking with local Wisconsin charities in order to distribute these kits locally, including Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse, and the Circle of Joy Food Pantry of Edgar and Marathon City. Representatives of these charities report that when basic necessities like soap and toothpaste are provided to struggling families, they can work on larger issues like housing, job skills and living healthy lifestyles.

Since 2010, Catholic United Financial and its volunteers have distributed more than 35,000 personal care kits and raised more than $50,000 in donations. More information about Gather4Good is available at www.gather4good.org.
